Foundation Update:
In December 2024, the Medina Foundation Trustees made the decision to sunset the Foundation. This decision came after much reflection, assessment, and future planning. We are proud of our nearly 80-year history of supporting amazing nonprofits working in our community.
We were honored to award nearly $14 million in exit grants to 195 of our long-time grantees in 2025. These grants marked the conclusion of our regular grantmaking. Staying true to our belief in the power of general operating support, 90% of those grants were unrestricted.
As we now move into our sunsetting phase, we are no longer accepting unsolicited proposals. In February 2026, the Foundation’s Trustees announced a new, invitation-only Request for Proposals focused on transformative projects. We received 245 letters of inquiry in response, with requests totaling more than $865 million. There were so many strong, creative, and compelling proposals, and we will unfortunately only be able to fund a fraction of them. Invitations to submit full applications were sent in April, and Trustees expect to make final funding decisions this fall. This competitive process will likely be the final funding opportunity from Medina as we aim to sunset the Foundation in 2027, in recognition of our 80th anniversary.
Thank you for all your work and partnership over the years as we complete this final chapter of Medina’s story.
